Mid-Autumn Store Activation: A Creative Journey with Little Luna Studio
I’m incredibly proud and honored to share that Michael Kors entrusted us with a special project for this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival. This marks the first time we’ve had the privilege of collaborating with such an iconic brand, and as part of my newly formed company, Little Luna Studio, it was a dream come true.
The project spanned across three key locations: Mid Valley, Sunway Pyramid, and Penang Gurney Plaza, over two exciting days of live art and store activation. It was an unforgettable opportunity to showcase our creativity and craftsmanship in a way I had never done before.
A First for Little Luna Studio: Hand-Drawn Lanterns
This project presented many firsts for me as an artist. Drawing directly on lanterns was a completely new experience—something I hadn’t attempted before. The curved and rough texture of the lantern surface made the process quite challenging, especially since each design was drawn freehand without any prior sketching. Unlike the usual flat surfaces I work on, these lanterns demanded precision, focus, and steady hands.
Though it was difficult, the thrill of pushing boundaries and testing my fundamental skills kept me motivated throughout the process. Every single lantern I worked on was completely hand-drawn, making each one uniquely different from the next. This project allowed me to truly embrace my creativity in a new way.
Chinese Ink: My Medium of Choice
For this activation, I chose to use one of my favorite mediums—Chinese ink. Its fluidity and luminosity have always fascinated me, and though it’s quite different from the materials I typically work with, it felt like the perfect fit for this project. The ink’s natural flow added vibrancy and energy to the designs, giving each lantern a sense of life and movement.
Floral Symbols: Meaning Behind the Art
The designs I chose for the lanterns were inspired by traditional Chinese floral symbols. Peonies represented prosperity, while cherry blossoms symbolized youth and beauty, and magnolias conveyed purity and nobility. To add even more charm and liveliness to the lanterns, I included butterflies, dragonflies, and birds, making each piece feel dynamic and playful.
Preserving Tradition with a Modern Twist
Despite the challenges, I was thrilled with how everything turned out. The lanterns not only embraced traditional Chinese art but also had a modern twist that made them unique to our vision. We managed to blend heritage and innovation seamlessly, and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome. It exceeded all my expectations.
A Grateful Partnership
This experience wouldn’t have been possible without the trust and belief of Michael Kors in our creative journey. I’m incredibly thankful for this collaboration, and it has left me even more excited about future projects.
Wishing everyone a warm and Happy Mid-Autumn Festival from Little Luna Studio! 🌕✨
